Maureen McGough is in the News in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Washington, DC
Scottsdale, AZ, and Washington, DC - Maureen McGough’s second home in Scottsdale, Arizona, was featured in The Arizona Republic newspaper on May 24, 2008. It is also featured online at AzCentral, com, where you can take a virtual tour of the house.
McGough and her husband Tim purchased a second home in Scottsdale in the spring of 2006. She breathed new life into the home by using decorating themes which combine indoor and outdoor living, bright color and contemporary and Southwestern styles.
“Rich butterscotch, found in granite countertops and furniture, spicy rusts and red oranges in paint and accessories; and turquoise, rusty orange, green and purple accents inhabit the design that blends a rustic/Native American look with a soft contemporary feel, “ says Sue Doerfler of The Arizona Republic.
“Gold and rusts dominate the great room, which is open to the kitchen. Western-style pillows, with bead brocade and leather fringe, top the gold leather sectional, which is contemporary in style. The metal coffee table, from France, features designs that resemble French cave art and gold leaf accents. A contemporary painting, which has a Native American flair, serves as a focal point.”
Washington Post “House Calls”
On May 28, McGough did a room redesign for the “House Calls” section in The Washington Post. You can go online and see before and after sketches of the 11-by-17-foot room which Maureen was tasked to convert from a nursery into a guest room and office.
McGough’s advice: “Create zones for the two functions. To make the most of the dormer window space and slanted walls, consider calling in a carpenter to build custom office furniture. Recessed lights along the room’s edges will provide ambient lighting. Painting all walls the same color will make the ceiling appear higher. Sheer tie-back curtains and Roman shade valance will let in natural light and can be closed for guests’ privacy. “

Two Homes Decorated by Maureen McGough Selected for Scottsdale, AZ, Home Tour on March 30, 2008
Scottsdale, AZ - Two homes decorated by Maureen McGough have been selected for the Terravita Home Tour in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 30, 2008. Terravita is a gated community of single-family homes in North Scottsdale.
McGough and her husband Tim, residents of Fairfax, Virginia, purchased a second home in Terravita in the spring of 2006. She breathed new life into the home by using decorating themes which combine indoor and outdoor living and contemporary and Southwestern styles.
For example, McGough created an indoor-outdoor living room with an outdoor entertainment area, which features a fireplace with a grill and bonco seats. She added sliding glass doors to the master bedroom to bring in light and a sense of continuity with the outdoors. And, in the backyard, she strategically placed a sculptured fountain to serve as a focal point as seen through a picture window. Two rooms from this home will be featured in the March 2008 issue of Northern Virginia Magazine as an example of fusion decorating – the combining of diverse styles and multicultural elements.
In the other home, owned by Kathy and Tom Eiben, McGough used a fusion of Spanish, Indian and Southwestern styles with eclectic pieces of art from Tibet and Afghanistan. She took advantage of expansive picture windows in the living room to capture the outdoors, adding a stylized metal fountain and a garden of cacti enclosed by a low adobe wall. Maureen created an intimate conversation area on the front porch with two Adirondack chairs of distressed wood, a whimsical side table, a jasmine vine and a metal sculptured fountain. The owners of the home can watch the sun set over Black Mountain from their porch.
